Located on the north shore of Sydney, Top Ryde City Living enjoys panoramic views across to the Sydney CBD and surrounding areas.
Top Ryde City Living features 653 apartments across seven buildings ranging from studios to penthouses. This high rise complex is setting new standards for residential apartment living in Sydney. Crown Group's internal project managers and architects were confident that Hebel was the ideal building product for this project, having previous experience in using Hebel systems across several projects.
The decision to use Hebel products for internal walls including intertenancy, corridor and shaft walls occurred early in the design development stage and, along with the internal referral and previous positive experience with the product, was chosen for the product's sound fire rating, acoustic and thermal properties.
High performing Hebel Intertenancy Wall systems are fast to install and are the ideal construction solution for separating party walls in low rise multi-residential and high rise apartment projects. Each system delivers the look, feel and security of a high performing solid masonry system using Hebel steel reinforced PowerPanels.
Using Hebel's intertenancy wall system, with its acoustic, fire rating properties and minimal overall wall thickness allowed for apartment areas to remain unchanged during the construction phase whilst complying with prescribed Building Code of Australia (BCA) requirements. With the Hebel panels being only about 75 millimetres thick, another stud wall could be built in front of the Hebel panel without any significant loss of space in the apartment. Even if there is a need to cut into the walls at a later date, to install such services as plumbing or additional power outlets, this will not affect the fire rating of the walls because services can be installed via the second wall without affecting the already-installed, fire resistant Hebel panel.
Environmentally, the minimal waste of materials during the construction phase, compared to masonry systems, was a consideration in the selection of Hebel systems.
Environmentally friendly, Hebel products and systems are the sustainable choice. Independent testing shows that overall, Hebel has a 30% lower environmental impact than concrete or brick veneer. Using over 60% less embodied energy, and producing at least 55% less greenhouse emissions than concrete or brick veneer, Hebel is the cleaner, greener choice.

From the beginning of the project, there was never any doubt that Hebel would be the first choice for the internal wall systems of the apartments. "Because it's delivered in the actual panels we will use for the installation, we require less tradespeople on site compared to what would be required for the installation of an alternative type of wall system. Labour is one of the most expensive parts of a construction project, so if you can minimise your labour and also minimise your waste, as is the case with Hebel, you will have a better result overall."
"The owners and occupants of the apartments also have peace of mind because of the safety and security that Hebel panels create between the apartments," said Gary. He pointed out that as a high quality masonry product, a Hebel wall is light in weight but strong in nature, resulting in that extra security between apartments compared with walls that do not have the strength of a masonry product.
For Gary, the advantages of installing Hebel internal wall systems in high rise residential apartments do not stop once the project is completed. "We've never had any issues with the Hebel wall systems," he said. "It's a good product and we know we won't have any problems when we use it. We're not called back to deal with problems, because they don't arise.
"There are other internal wall systems on the market, but we've found that the Hebel system is the best because of its quality and versatility. It's just an all-round good product. "
