Improvements & Initiatives
Many improvement initiatives commenced and were continued during the year including:
· safety workshops and safety acts audit work is carried out by employee teams to improve safety standards.
· health issues are discussed at regular ‘tool box’ meetings, often with guest speakers covering topics such as diet and protection from the sun.
· leadership training for frontline supervisors and managers. This is a four day course in two stages, with a workplace project.
· introducing the Take 2 hazard identification process to encourage people to ask, ‘what can I do so that I don’t get injured doing this task?’
· the SHE standard was reviewed and updated in 2003.
· external audits against the requirements of the SHE standard – aiming to have all sites audited over a three year period.
· training programs in manual handling, and injury investigation.
· consultative development work on ‘fitness for duty’ has been carried out throughout the year to ensure that fatigue, alcohol and other drugs do not cause injuries to employees.
