CSR welcomes Federal Government initiatives

CSR Limited has welcomed today’s announcements from the Federal Government regarding energy efficiency and housing.

Under the initiatives, the Federal Government will provide free insulation to 2.7 million homes, double the rebate for landlords to install insulation in rental properties and build 20,000 social and defence homes.

“We welcome the Federal Government’s acknowledgement of the importance of energy efficiency in housing and further stimulus to the housing sector,” said Jerry Maycock, Managing Director of CSR.

“Insulation in houses can significantly reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Ceiling insulation and energy efficient windows are the most effective ways to improve the comfort and energy efficiency of homes,” he said.

Heating and cooling account for around 38 per cent of a typical home’s energy use. With insulation, a large 300m2 home can save up to 80% of heating and cooling costs and a smaller 150m2 home can save up to 60% compared to a non-insulated home.

“Today’s initiatives are good news for home owners and renters, and good news forthe environment,” he said.
